Do you remember a time when your parents or teachers told you that you could be whatever you wanted to be? To do whatever you wanted to do? Did you buy into this belief, or did you find justification to reject it?
For most of my life, I wanted to live by this belief, but when I looked at my experience, I thought perhaps that belief applied to others, but not to me. At the same time, I have always suspected that I have been holding myself back, staying small to stay safe. I know that this is true because I have felt the tug of my spirit urging me to learn, to grow, play and make a bigger impact in spite of my perceived limitations.
Over the past 25 years, I have been studying what drives human behaviors and results. I’ve learned that we ALL have an inner spirit, urging us to learn, grow, play and to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others. The challenge to us is will we tune into this part of us, getting to know our strengths, our values and our deeply held beliefs, or will we live by default, allowing external forces to limit the expression of our spirit?
I ask myself these same questions on a daily basis and I am on this path with you. For me, Mastery is a process, not a destination. Because I believe that our spirits are unlimited, I know that there is always room to grow. As long as I am growing, I know that I am maximizing my gifts, which allow me to create and maintain healthy relationships and to make a meaningful impact on others. And the surprising bonus, when I am aligned with my spirit, I find that there are ample opportunities to play and to have fun!
How is your spirit urging you to learn, to grow, and to play?
